Do you like donuts? For sure you like - everyone likes donuts. And if I told you that there is such a land: Paczkolandia. A land in which everything is made of donuts and covered with marmalade. She sleeps in her donuts, donuts make up every meal, and no one asks you how many donuts you have already eaten. No one judges you by watching you eat your seventh pudding, even though you do not remember when you last saw your feet. There are no rules here. The only question is whether there is such a thing as too many donuts<\/em>? P\u0105czkolandia is Las Vegas, a unique city in the world. The week I spent in this place is definitely too long!<\/p>\n

Before reading this post I highly recommend the film Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (our Las Vegas Parano). There are very few films that accurately reflect the specificity of any place. This is the essence of everything we meet in Vegas: women, lights, lasers, drugs and the desert. When I finish this post, it is just the fifth day in a row that I spend under the covers without leaving the pajamas. This is a side effect of Vegas, the cost of withdrawal, which I was willing to pay for a visit to this NAJ- city of the world. Naj - what? From the Eiffel Tower in the scale of 1: 2 and the Arc de Triomphe, the Statue of Liberty and all Manhattan, canals with gondoliers straight from Venice, columns and sculptures straight from Rome, volcanoes exploding, roller coaster, Egyptian Sphinx and giant pyramid. If the aliens planned to visit us in order to check what has been interesting in Poland for the last few thousand years, Vegas would be enough for them. Do not get me wrong, it's not that Las Vegas is not worth a visit - it's worth the most. We are talking about the most luminous place on Earth, where everything else is also the best. Las Vegas is a place that changes your perception of the world. Big things become small, rich people become poor or average, and the word momentum<\/em> takes on a whole new meaning.<\/p>\n

In Las Vegas everything revolves around money. Just like everywhere, here nobody is hiding.<\/p>\n

When it comes to payments, Americans are light years behind us. The surprise on the faces of the shop assistants when you try to pay with PayPassem is unspeakably big. The only correct form of using the card here is by dragging it through the terminal and signing the invoice. Not only that, in pubs it looks like you give your waiter your card, he disappears with it and returns with a bill to sign, on which you enter the amount of the tip. Tips are theoretically mandatory, even on payment dates there are fields on which the question is, do you want to give 16%, 22%, 28%, etc. And this is a bit awkward, because you enter, for example, the $ 15 tip (WTF ?! ) and you go home, and the waiter returns to the back of the account and pulls you from the card, which is long gone, written by you pen value. The level of trust is huge here.<\/p>\n

Well, it works like this: you're sitting on the Best Buy website, you see a Garmin watch for $ 100, you add it to the basket, you click it and you see a bill for almost $ 110. A good chance that in another city it would cost more or less. The prices here do not include tax. That's why going to the store and seeing take 2 for 5 $<\/em>you do not really know how much you pay. At first it seems to be some sick, but if we think about it ... It clearly shows the impact of tax on the price, the influence of the state, politics and distributes how much we pay for the goods from how much we pay to someone who in this transaction is not at all occurs. It's as if we were getting a gross salary, and then they gave up the money themselves. Maybe people would notice that something is not halo, that changes in the government can realistically reflect on everyday life.<\/p>\n

Because when it comes to buying, it is a beautiful country. I bought Garmin Fenix \u200b\u200b5x, in total by accident, because I wanted a completely different one. I tore off the tapes, opened the box, unpacked everything, tried on and it turned out to be like carrying a laptop. So I go back to the store with my head down and ask what I can do. The seller apparently did not understand the problem completely. First, he asked me to turn on my computer and to show me how to use Garmin Express and give lessons in using electronics, then I did not understand why I was wondering what to do. If you do not like something - you give away or exchange. You do not translate, you do not get dark to keep up the conversation, the staff will ask you for sure what you did not like and will suggest an exchange for something more tailor-made or just return the money. Everything, of course, in such an atmosphere, that not only that you go out with another watch is still with 3 other devices.<\/p>\n

A nice lady at the cash register slowly scans everything in turn and drops to the nets. The scanning time of each item is 7x slower than in our Biedronka, but why should you hurry?<\/p>\n

Hurry is unhealthy, and we stand in the queue for 20 minutes, just to buy some sweets. Of course, this is a relative concept, because the packaging here can be treated like multifamily<\/em>. Big things are big here, like big fries in McDonalds, which are not big, just huge, and big Cola is not big, but colossal.<\/p>\n

Las Vegas is a casino. Gambling keeps it alive. Putting money into the machine, you have such an awkward feeling, as if you were putting 5 zlotys in a garbage can and slammed the lid behind them. Everyone knows that the casino always wins and nothing can be won. This truth is somewhat distorted, because yes: the casino always wins, but it does not mean that the player always loses. In general, games are designed to bring revenue to the owner, but it's done cleverly. Almost every day, when we start the game, there is a moment when we are seriously in the plus (seriously speaking, I mean 5-10x amount of money put in). These games work so that they give such an illusory feeling that can be<\/em>. I am not writing here about a poker game in which someone has to win and someone to lose.<\/p>\n

I will probably never say anything about a hotel in my life that is big. We spend the night at MGM Grand and let me quote here Wikipedia:<\/p>\n

A little by chance we get there, for example, to the Hakkasan club. It's like nothing, a club like a club - the entrance is somewhat hidden, the place is not something special. It's a club hidden somewhere between the corridors, but it is played by such DJs as: Calvin Harris, Steve Aoki, Tiesto, Kaskade, Hardwell ...<\/p>\n

All this means that every morning we get lost in our own hotel. However, this is not a coincidence. Casinos in Vegas have no windows, you have no idea what the time of day is - there are no clocks or anything that could suggest, even in a large approximation of what is currently happening outside. There are also no signposts to go, but for everything else. If you want to go after The Strip, and just went to the wrong side of the object, then you are with 15 minutes in the back. It's a bit scary, because even in your room, you have windows that are always covered, as the sky here is always bright.<\/p>\n

I have other problems in the room. After a few walks, I'm guessing what the Las Vegas visit is all about. I feel some discomfort lying on the bed or entering the bathtub. The thought of what happened to them before my arrival makes me a little disgusted.<\/p>\n

Where does the idea for a bath come from? A set eye will notice that nothing in this city has been built by accident (although everything looks like that). The windows do not open, and any terraces or ground crossings have windows so large that even if you try, you will not fall out. Your 3-year-old child will hurt yourself better at home than here. Suicides are not easy.<\/p>\n

You will probably think that in a city of scandal and lawlessness can not be safely. Alcohol, gambling, drugs - it somehow does not combine with security. During a week's stay here, we saw two arrests of not very normal people, both in a side street. In none of the casinos or hotels we have encountered any situation, even if it is slightly uncomfortable. And it scares a bit, because it is not normal. Casino security guards can not be seen here, the police are not on the streets, generally there are any security services with a candle to look for. Once, the only one passing by a security guard in the casino - I have not seen such a big man in my life - we start to guess how it works. Omnipresent cameras (though invisible) quickly catch any attempts of insubordination, and people falling outside the convention standard player,<\/em> quickly drawn are confident behind the wall<\/em>. Somewhere in the back of the head there was this awareness that someone is watching you and waking up without a finger before you finish your thought of making a fuss with the dealer.<\/p>\n

The Strip is a street-city. This is the only place in the city where you can easily drink alcohol on the street and where every moment someone comes up with the question of whether you have fire, because you can not fire a joint. This place is beautiful and terrifying. When you go it for the first time - it fascinates you, after a week you want to shoot a fang of every naked woman who offers you a photo with you. In the same way to the deprived Superman, the Lego man, or the Jedi knight. The piston, the smell of marijuana and women, in clothes that were probably made of two threads. So many tourists in such small clothes are probably not even on Copacabana's beaches. A walk with the popular Stip is the most obligatory thing in this city, because it's exactly where the city is all you need to see, that is:<\/p>\n

This is a great pyramid with a very large Sphinx and many small Sphinx. It looks a bit like someone writing an order, he patted the number in the field: 100 and then he had to put it somewhere. However, this does not matter, because the hotel is known mainly for the fact that it shoots the sky with the strongest light beam that you will see in your life: 39 7-kilowatt incandescent bulbs (although only half of them are currently used). One such bulb has the power of 110 light bulbs illuminating your largest room. In the conversion per unit slightly more appropriate to the climate of the area, it gives a brightness similar to 40 billion candles. To illustrate it even better: the radius is visible both from space and some 450 kilometers away Los Angeles. Igniting all the bulbs at the same time generates costs of around $ 100 per hour, which may not sound so bad until we discover that it is almost a million dollars a year for a lamp.<\/p>\n

The hotel itself is a 30-story, glass pyramid built in 1993. for 375 million dollars for nearly a thousand people. Originally, an artificial river flowed through it, followed by a ferry with thematic trips about antiquity and a replica of the tomb of King Tutankhamen from the Valley of the Kings in Egypt, but probably someone thought it was a bad idea. Instead, two additional 22-storey buildings were built for Ziggurats.<\/p>\n

Aha ... there are 4,400 hotel rooms in this inconspicuous outside complex, and from what I managed to chase, the sfinx standing in front of the entrance is an exact copy of the one that stands in Egypt (with the difference that the other one has already disappeared).<\/p>\n

Hotel Bellagio does not stand out from the outside as anything special. Modeled on the village of the same name, located on the Italian Lake Como, it is considered one of the most prestigious hotels in the area. My humble eye can not assess it. What attracts tourists to it is the famous fountain show taking place every evening, now probably best known from the stage ending the film Ocean's 11<\/a>. The view of lights, loud music and water thrown over 70 meters upwards makes an amazing impression. The operating cost is $ 5 million a year. In all a bit similar to our Warsaw park with fountains, only that in the American edition (make me such, but bigger<\/em>). Shows take place in the evenings every 15 minutes, so it's worth going there at least a few times. Music changes, sometimes it is better sometimes worse, and the show itself looks different depending on which side we look at it ... and of course it is free.<\/p>\n

Hotel Mirage<\/h1>\n

\"las<\/a>You passed Bellagio and you think wow<\/em>. It is a pity that Mirage is next in order. It's just Bellagio just more. What can one say about one of the most expensive hotels in the world, where even window frames were made with the use of real gold dust to make them shine nicely? Parks where you can meet a white tiger, an aquarium with nearly a thousand animals, a dolphinarium ... and a volcano that is equivalent to the fountains from Bellagio. Only they shoot fire instead of water, which makes it hot all over the area. The shows (which, of course, are accompanied by a suitable audio setting) are few, so the crowd is always quite big. Here, once again, you have to admit that there is no shortage of boys, because letting go of such amounts of gas into the air would generate a not very pleasant smell ... that's why the gas smells of Pina Colada ;-)<\/p>\n

The construction cost is 630 million dollars.<\/p>\n

Hotel New York New York<\/h1>\n

In my humble opinion, the best hotel in Las Vegas - at least in appearance. It is not as luxurious as others, not so big, it does not blast, it does not shoot and it does not explode ... but it does not have to. The hotel reproduces the New York skyline from the '40s and it does it very well. So here are all the most important skyscrapers, the Statue of Liberty ... and rollecoaster modeled on the famous yellow taxis, which reach almost 110km \/ h around the hotel, making turnovers in various directions along the way, pass through the center of the building. One ride - $ 15, but in my opinion it is definitely worth it. For obvious reasons, I do not have a single picture of driving;)
\nIn the middle of course, it also resembles the streets of this beautiful city, so strolling in the middle of the hotel, we walk along the pedestrian streets, while the cafes and shops located in 2-4 storey buildings are set up.<\/p>\n

We've heard that you like New York, so we put New York in New York in Las Vegas ...<\/div><\/div>\n

Venetian Hotel<\/h1>\n

No matter what you saw earlier, entering the third floor of The Venetian, your jaw drops, and your head raises questions: who, why, how<\/em>? Because, from the outside, the hotel is surrounded by water, tiles, columns, gondolas and a copy of the Belfry of St. A brand in Venice (size 1: 1), walls and ceilings cover endless frescoes, but ...<\/p>\n

Who expects the replica of St. Mark's Square on the third floor of the hotel with canals and gondolas carrying people? Then the fact that all the other most important points of Venice are there as well, ceases to be so surprising.<\/p>\n

It is also impossible not to mention the Excalibur hotel, which looks like a completely different fairy tale ... literally. What kind of brain do you have to come up with that? What stimulated must be the thought processes to tell someone: listen, put me here, in the middle of this desert, such a small Disneyland. I do not know, probably marijuana, mescaline, maybe cocaine. But let's add the fact that this fun castle, on the opening day was the largest hotel in the world, and 13 years later it was the highest jackpot in the history of Jackpot (that is, the game where you pull the handle) - almost 40 million dollars.<\/p>\n

At this stage of the entry, nobody will be surprised that the interior looks like a real castle, and from time to time knights' tournaments are organized there, where the soldiers fight with copies on real horses, swords and, of course, fire.<\/p>\n

There are many hotels like The Venetian. Paris is located next to it with its Eiffel Tower (scale 1: 2), the Arc de Triomphe (scale 2: 3), corridors in the style of the aforementioned but imitating the French capital (classic narrow streets, cafes with baguettes, artificial sky and crystal chandeliers) and things as obvious as theater or Plac Zgody. Ask why the tower is not life-size. Yes, it was supposed to be so, but too close distance from the airport did not allow it. The object itself is not somehow big on the local scale, it only covers an area of \u200b\u200b10,000 square meters ;-)<\/p>\n

There is also a Circus Circus with a funfair inside, the Stratosphere with a 350 meter observation tower. Like nothing, tower like tower, but very high. Only Las Vegas, nothing can be ordinary here! On the tower there are 4 attractions straight from the funfairs, which generate an overload of several G and move the tourist a few meters from the tower and make the panties change color. Obviously, these 4 attractions have recently occupied the first 4 places in the highest category attractions<\/em> the world. Currently, the competition is won by the Canton Tower in China. There are many such hotel flavors in this city ... But you think that it can not be all Las Vegas, there must be something in this city apart from hotels. Well, please! I invite you to the rail queue that runs between the hotels ... over the streets and let us reach it to the end, to the mentioned Stratosphere.<\/p>\n

Las Vegas Boulvard, after crossing Sahara Avenue, changes beyond recognition, as do people on the sidewalks. Some 97% of the population disappears, and those who remain, change their material status and skin color. It's a bit like a combination of Mexico and a not-so-friendly neighborhood in New York, although I personally do not feel any particular threat. This is where the popular fast weddings in Vegas take place. Every second building is a chapel, in front of which there is a limousine. You've been moving this post for probably 20 minutes and you've already noticed that I am writing here only about buildings and streets. Yes, Las Vegas is a city where there is nothing but tourist buildings and neighborhood boring homes for residents. Every lookout platform, entering the city by car, or even landing at the airport makes it easy to see. This city is located in the middle of nothing. As far as the eye can see, only rocks and mountains are still on the horizon.<\/p>\n

Talking about attractions in the Vegas area is a bit of an abuse, but the concept of the neighborhood changes somewhat when you are in the middle of the desert. That's why the main starting points are three: Red Rock Canyon, Death Valley and Grand Canyon. The first one is located less than 30 kilometers from the city, so we skipped it, it's too easy. We rent a Ford Mustang Cabrio for about $ 60 a day and we're on our way.<\/p>\n

The southern shore, to which we are heading, is located 4.5h from Vegas (that is, you can get to the west in half shorter time, but there is only a glass platform and you can not bring private cameras on it, so I despise it) . From the south there are lots of walking routes that go down and go back up - even those two days. If you plan to beat any of them going from Vegas and planning to come back the same day - forget it. The average speed that can be achieved on the trail is around 1 mile per hour. Although they are not difficult, there is a lot to be defeated vertically. Key routes like South Kaibab or Bright Angel Trail can not be beat. Does this mean that 270 minutes of one-way and two-way return trips, just to get a big hole in the ground for a few hours is not worth it? That would be the biggest lie in history! Apart from the fact that the road through the deserts is perfect and shows how much clutter lies Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon is worth every minute. Just do not ooze signs, take with you water and food, and make sure that the car is refueled. This is an illusion of security after leaving the city in which everything is, it can be ruinous. It is a real desert and real problems, including lack of range, very high temperatures and enormous distances to anything. Observing the areas that we pass, homes built on the basis of abandoned camper and fences, beyond which we will probably get a bullet in the head, the picture of my favorite computer game is coming up: Fallout. It's the exact same place: wild, dangerous, deadly.<\/p>\n

We park at the Grand Canyon Visitor Center, there is no problem - you pay around 20USD for entry to the park. Seemingly a lot, but when we refer to the $ 45 we paid on the first day of our stay for 3 small Margaritas in plastic cups, everything seems cheap to us.<\/p>\n

Busik rides from neighboring places. There is an asphalt-gravel promenade along the southern shore, where from time to time there are platforms \/ view rocks. It is not difficult to guess at the parking lot, the crowds on them are unmerciful, but the further we go, the more calm we will find - as it usually happens in the mountains.<\/p>\n

The Grand Canyon is an exaggeration - the scale is lost somewhere here, the reference points disappear. It is so huge that people look and do not know what's going on. The brain processes the information coming from the eyes, explains that it must be just a mural. We are talking here about the park, which consists mainly of one hole, the length of which is 446km, the width reaches 29km, and the depth to almost 1900m. Translating it into human language: Grand Canyon is a hole stretching from Gda\u0144sk to Katowice. I do not have depth to compare, because we do not have anything in Poland and the surrounding area with such a high degree of prominence (relative height).<\/p>\n

I do not have the right words to describe how big a hole is, but it's really big and impressive. That day, my heart rate has not fallen below 150. It is amazing that only one person dies here per month, because looking at people shooting selfiki from the hand at the edge of a 1.5-kilometer chasm, we insisted that someone disappears here every day.<\/p>\n

The dam lies by the artificial lake Mead, which of course is THE MOST biggest water reservoir in the USA (in terms of the amount of water when it is full, and this is rare).<\/p>\n

I am willing to visit her interior and listen to how it was built, thanks to the drilling of 5 kilometers of additional tunnels for water, and look at the turbines - we do not have time. It is also the only place where we see armed soldiers - there is no wonder whatsoever, the dam regulates the life of the whole region.<\/p>\n

Wikipedia says that 2.5 million cubic meters of concrete were used for the dam itself, and then almost one million more for the plant itself. That would be enough to build a two-lane highway between San Francisco and New York. Add to this almost 1000km of cooling pipes and we have quite a big cattle. For digitorial incinerators, the firewall generates some 4 TWh per year. For comparison, in 2014, Poland generated about 150 such hours.<\/p>\n

After the dam and the Grand Canyon comes such a nasty feeling that nothing in your life will surprise you with its size. Especially that online reviews say that the Death Valley on the other side of Vegas is not as cool as you'd expect. So I inform: yes, the valley is completely different, but equally worth visiting!<\/p>\n

On the meter the pointer starts to exceed 180km \/ h (if the police read it, of course it hangs on 55 miles), mountains in the distance from 20 minutes have not come any closer. I also do not remember when we last saw a bend ... or anything, any reference that would allow us to understand the speed at which we are moving or how long the distance is still waiting. I have half gasoline left, I'm starting to get stressed. It's probably some 300 kilometers of driving - how long is it 300 kilometers? How far is it to the hills that are in front of us and how long are we going along this road? Maybe it's the Matrix that hangs, we're not moving. The trunk full of water and beef jerky from Walmart somewhat calms us down - in case of some misfortune, we will survive here a minimum of two days. We feel like the heroes of Las Vegas Parano.<\/p>\n

In the case of a trip to the Valley of Death located about 2 hours from Las Vegas, the ride itself is a goal. I have never seen it so much in my life nothing<\/em>, roads so simple, rocks so beautiful. It gives you a picture of where the global gambling center lies - exactly nowhere. Where did it come from and how is it possible that it exists? On the way, we pass Red Rock Canyon, which looks similar, but the rocks, as the name suggests, are the color of blood splattered on the outdoor dance shirt.<\/p>\n

We are talking about a place where the temperature record was over 56 \u00b0 C, and in which the ground can heat up to over 100 \u00b0 C. It is hard to imagine, but the water poured onto the soil would evaporate immediately.<\/p>\n

At the entrance waiting for us a machine, which in exchange for throwing around 25USD (... maybe 30) gives us a confirmation that no one will check and a newsletter with curiosities and the most important points to see - each of them leads the way, ideally. We start with Dante's View.<\/p>\n

The whole area looks like a movie taken from SF films, it's a different planet, another world and Dante's View is the best example. We stand at the top of one of the hills, there is nothing around us, just rocks. As far as the eye can see, no trace of any civilization. Somewhere down, along a large, white patch, or Badwater lake that is dried out, an empty, asphalt road winds. It is from there that the heaviest race ultramarathon of the world moves and leads up to 217 kilometers further (136km in a straight line) Mount Whitney. It is the highest mountain in continental states - 4,421 meters. With a bit of luck, it can be seen here towering over America's largest depression (-86 meters). If not, we always have Telescope Peak, which with its less than 3,400 meters, starts on the other side of the hole. After a dozen or so minutes, our skin is already white from salt.<\/p>\n

Artists Drive is one of the strangest routes I've seen. Narrow, one-way, probably built only so that you can cross between the most colorful rocks of the area. The rocks themselves are as easy to guess as anything interesting, they just have a slightly different shade (a little green, a bit brown). On the other hand, I would say that it is a cyclist's wet sleep, because the asphalt is perfect, many turns, and even hills, although very short, it's steep. Word wet<\/em> however, it does not fit into the area. These few kilometers are the best next to Dante's View what happened to us that day. The road is beautiful, although I can not explain why. We reflect back to the only place in the area - Furnance Creek, although talking about the village is a bit of an exaggeration - the population there is exactly 24 people. You can probably say that it is the most expensive gasoline within thousands of miles, about $ 1.5 to $ 2 more than a bit further. Well, if you have a choice to spend a little more or turn into beef jerky, there is not much choice.<\/p>\n

Coming back we hooked up yet 20 Mule Team Road<\/em>. <\/i>We did not pass all planned places, and this road was marked somewhere as worth seeing. I did not think too much about why it is not on Google Street View. Only then, when I read what these 20 Mule Teams are, 20 mule are caravans consisting of 18 mules (hehehe) and two horses. They hauled borax mined in the Mojave desert to railway stations located nearly 300 kilometers away. They were one of the largest wagons ever pulled by animals. The water alone in this transport was 4.5 tons. Well, if we knew it before, we would guess that the road would not be asphalt. It was a key moment for our trip, in which we realized how we live in a strange world. We are somewhere in the middle of the desert, surrounded by nothing. If our rear-wheel convertible is buried in the sand, no one will find us alive there, even the range is gone. Just a dozen hours later, we were to be at the center of the world civilization, with rain and 3 degrees - London.<\/div>

Both the Grand Canyon and the Death Valley are places that are difficult to describe in words. It's like a visit to another planet. It's funny how Las Vegas found its place between two such vast wastelands. And let's remember that a bit further to the west there are areas as interesting as the Antelope Canyon, and to the east, beyond the valley, other national parks start, for example Sequoia ... and all of California, which I wrote about two weeks ago. Awareness of how many things in the world I have not seen hurt a bit. However, it is worth remembering that, contrary to popular opinion, visiting without the help of a bicycle can also be pleasant.<\/p>\n

Will I ever come back to Vegas? Not necessarily. Is the area around this city? Of course. Well, somewhere in the back of the head again, the restless thought that maybe sitting in this gray Warsaw is not the best idea for a living?<\/p>\n

A bit like a computer game, but more. Apparently nothing, but since it will be in UFC, and one day it will come in cycling, the viewing of which may become a bit less boring.<\/p>\n

This entry should have ended long ago - no one will ever read it in its entirety. However, I look at him and I miss something. It took a moment for me - it is missing the MOST IMPORTANT: food. We set the point of honor for us during our stay, visit the largest possible number fast food<\/em> (hoping that what is eaten in Las Vegas, he stays in Las Vegas) and finding at least one place with good meat. I will say immediately that checking all fastfoods is impossible even if we lived there from birth ;-) I will not bore you with boring stories about successful and unsuccessful attempts, here is what follows. Ellis Island BBQ - one of those places that have no right to be good. Close to The Strip but a few streets away, in a hotel that looks many times cheaper than popular molasses. Such a little roadside, clean motel. We enter the casino - the stench of pipes makes it difficult to break through. We catch the reflex called withdrawal<\/em>but something pushes us further. Somewhere in the distance a restaurant is hidden, in which there is silence, pleasant smell and happy people fighting in gloves with ribs. However, they fight with their size, not separation from the bones, because the meat goes practically alone. The card only ribs and grilled chicken. For 18 $ (probably plus tax and plus tip) I get a full rib and I have a problem to beat them together with salads and a roll, but it's the best rib I've ever eaten. There may be many such hidden places, I can certainly recommend it.<\/p>\n
