"I travel not to anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel's sake. The great affair is to move. "
Robert Louis Stevenson, Travels with a Donkey in the Cevennes
Beskids, Jeseníky, Moravia
[dropcap] 4 [/ dropcap] days off, we haven't had that long ago. Although the weather was not encouraging, we decided to go to the mountains. The basic problem that concerned us was WHERE. So we decided to go to a place where there are no mountains, but it lies at an equal distance from several ranges. Rybnik - far away everywhere: Beskids, Jeseníky, Moravia, and the Tatra Mountains. Analyzing the weather, we were able to choose to avoid the announced storms. Mostly we have succeeded.
Day 1. 152 km
We start with a loop that I do many times a year. Starting from Wisła, we go through Koniaków to Żywiec. Then the Żar mountain and through Magurka and Salmopol to the car. It is not easy, and it never is on this route – it does not matter whether you drive it in the winter in the snow, in the summer in the sun, or, like us, somewhere on the verge of rain. We miscalculated something and unfortunately, instead of admiring and enjoying the views, we have to slow down a bit, because dusk is chasing us. Fortunately, we manage to make it both before the storm and before the oscypek stands close. The road did not surprise us with anything. It is just as nice as always. The fatigue is the same. Day 2. 130 km
On the second day we decide to visit friends who came to my favorite Czech mountains. Usually I set off from Bruntal, but this time we have a bit further to the starting point. But it is worth it. Both the views and the quality of the asphalt compensate for the long access road. It is always the same in the Czech Republic. It seems to be the same as here, but the roads are better, there is less traffic, the hills are higher, the grass is greener. A standard loop, stopping by Pradziad, on the top of which we freeze. It is colder than cold - especially during the descent. Day 3. 137 km
On the third day we don't know what to do, according to the forecast it's raining everywhere. So we find a random, good-looking track on MapMyRide, upload it to Garmin and set off for Ostrava. There we park by one of the supermarkets and set off. It's hard to say anything about the weather, the sky is blue above us, and there are clouds the colour of ads for too salty soup everywhere. The Czech Republic is like the Czech Republic, the roads are empty, even, a bit like our village, only somehow better, sometimes a cyclist. Kofola, Lentilky and festivals. I'm including Moravia among the places that are definitely worth visiting: despite the low hills, there are even serious frying pans - a substitute for real mountains, with a capital "G". The clouds are getting closer, but we're still riding in the sun. The last 15 km are a disaster. Fortunately, after 3 minutes it doesn't matter anymore. After all, we won't be any wetter anyway. We return in such a state that our clothes probably won't dry for the last day. So we abandon the idea of the Tatras and after changing, we go straight back to Warsaw. Marcin has the Baltic Sea-Bieszczady in a week, so he could use some rest, and on Sunday I set off on my standard loop, with the standard group.
