Beautiful Lovers - Another World
The Warsaw Film Festival is under way. As a classic representative of the mass audience, I try to avoid such events. On most ambitious films, I fall asleep: I do not understand the plot, I'm confused by the threads, and the scenes that last 3 seconds in Cinema City are extended to minutes in these creative productions. Such a windfall, however, I could not miss: Wonderful Losers, or Beautiful losers is a movie about riders. Every movie about riders is about to be seen.

I will skip the history of tickets bought on the internet for PLN 20 and the fact that someone used them, thanks to which we enter the movie about 2 minutes before the screening, even though we had 40 minutes at the cash register. Technical errors happen to everyone ... The plus is that we sit in the third row - next to the producer who kindly greets us and staring at the screen, seems to wait for the movie as if he was watching it for the first time.

I had high hopes in the film. This is a story about something else: without doping in the background, without too much pathos, without a hero who wants to win another Tour in a row, without scandals and words Armstrong. This is a story about gregarioor people whose main goal is not to win. On one hand, a big challenge, on the other - in the end you will be able to explain why for 200 starters, only a few have a chance to win and what are the others for. Because gregario they are helpers - water bottle fillers, windbreakers, pushers. And great. Even when you look at the trailer, which lincage above, everything indicates that, however bad or good movie would not be, we - the riders will like it.
Such, wawa - the movie is hopeless. After the film, we stay over an hour-long conversation with the director: it plunges him even more. Arūnas Matelis, Lithuanian, talks about the fact that they were the first neutral film crew that appeared on the Giro d'Italia and that they have been asking for it for many years. I listen and think - my guest, you had such possibilities and you ruined them ...
Do you know why independent film crews are not allowed? That they would not record the details of accidents, suffering, pain, blood and broken bones and awkward moments like pissing in a ditch. This movie does just that.
The film begins with an accident in which Daniele Colli takes part. Of course, we do not know that he is him, and even as we know, how would we know who he is. He is one of those helpers. Do you feel the climate? The film focuses on "those less known but very important"Cyclists, and ANY ONE OF THEM, during the whole hour of the film is not presented or signed. WTF? Then there are scenes of accidents interspersed with lengthy shots from the car camera, which goes at the end of the race column and a few lofty sentences of not-know-whom. If we do not know, how are the poor people in the room supposed to know?
The film is probably directed to those people who in every possible place on the Internet must point out that cycling is the heaviest sport in the world, and football is for lalusii. This is probably the only group that you will like. Because most of the scenes are shots that are forbidden on race reports. These are the shots that we like to watch on the internet, but we do not admit it (but of course we make it massively available) - that is what happens after the accident. Close-ups on cyclists lying and kneeling with pain, not entirely conscious, getting on their bicycle and those who are being treated by a doctor while driving - the shots from the medical wagon are quite ridiculous. Or pissing on the roadside and a story about it - a cycling movie for a mass audience has to touch this topic. It's like Kuba Wojewódzki's interview with a cyclist.
Because cycling is actually one of the most difficult sports and it can sometimes be said, but we are talking about cycling, which has absolutely nothing to do with our amateur. Cycling is difficult, because if you turn up on the 4th day of the race, you check how much of the skin you did not leave until you jumped back behind the wheel. There are more than a dozen days of murderous struggle ahead. You can take your girlfriend and boyfriend to this movie, hoping that you will appreciate what a great hero you are doing such a difficult discipline, but rather you will go out on the track - it's a different sport.
The film reminds that cycling is a tremendously unrewarding sport. One simple error can cross out a 3-week race. He draws attention to people whose victory is not to reach the first place and help in obtaining such a result for their teammate. And those accidents, after which you do not have time to check which parts of your body are broken, because you have to go back on the route to complete the stage. Although it is a story that should be a ready recipe for success, especially when you have the possibility of filming on Giro, the director was able to make a boring silt.
Somewhere in the back I feel that the idea of the movie was completely different, but the accident of the main character crossed out the story a bit. On the other hand, the guy raced for 5 days with a broken pelvis, so some shots and stories should be taken. Plus, the Daniele mentioned here was also in the cinema room with us. He says he is accustomed to injuries and tippers, and will spend the next season in the Chinese team. As a cyclist, it does not matter to him - they pay, he takes the job. In Icarus, too, the story was changed during filming, but I think it worked out for good. Here it is not.
Who are you, where are you going, where did you come from in this movie ?!
This movie would be nice if it lasted 6-7 minutes. I think that more or less interesting material was in it. Do not count on epic racing shots, interesting stories (there is no history at all, because every now and then a new, completely unknown person is shown), or any information you might not know as a rider. It is a conglomeration of random scenes focusing more on physical suffering than any psychic distress. Some people, somewhere in the mountains, in sleeping bags, bonfires, what's going on ?!
Plus the movie is one - poster. It's Luca Paolini, the favorite biker of partygoers. A guy who got banned for cocaine and who was covered by a phone while driving on the Tour de France. And the idea was great. I enjoyed it so much that I can safely say that it is the biggest occupation of the season.
No
The movie probably will never be on torrents (because for what), and even if you catch it somewhere, it's hard without subtitles, because they speak in Italian, English and German. However, there are two more chances to see it:
Kinoteka 1: Sunday, 15 October 09:30
Kinoteka 1: Wednesday, 18 October 16:00
but you go there on your own responsibility.
After watching this movie, I admit to two stars more for Kross Road2Rio - but it was not so bad. It's a bit like disqualifying a gold medalist after five years and mixing medals with others, but it probably falls out.

PS A request not to speak to the director after the film On behalf of all the cyclists, thank you for this great movie. Because this is not the case, we would most eagerly ask for a refund of PLN 40 ;-)

Too bad I didn't know. I would have liked to have watched it.
Just a little digression. When you describe any movie :) it's nice to inform the reader beforehand that the text gives away the movie's plot.
Vimeo asks for a password at the top of the page.
I don't think I'm giving away more than the first 5 minutes, but I'll be careful.
As for the video in the header, someone must have set the video properties to private :/
I found a Lithuanian title. I found Lithuanian cinemas with this film, it comes out in February, I'll probably go. I live near the border. :-)
but I understand that it's for a few studio ones?
