Canyon. The first word that comes to mind when you hear this brand is German quality ... or a reasonable price. I do not know. Saying, of course, about a reasonable price, I mean meaningful in the sense of a man who heard the words: cucumber, bomb, wood, beater and melt thoughts about cycling. Because the meaning of the word reasonable is very fluid. Not so much, however, that it ever appeared in the context of another company that appears in this entry. A company that evokes extreme emotions like spinners and motors put together - Rapha. How did it happen that these brands work closely together - I do not know. I know one thing and it's worth remembering: probably none of our civilian friends and people on the streets will know these companies.
There is poor coverage in our apartment. Many times I agreed to things that did not suit me in my life. When Paweł from Canyon called me and somewhere between the white noise and complete silence, words appeared: top models, Ultimate, Aeroad, Rapha, Berlin and the weekend, I agreed immediately. Well ... almost right away. First, I wondered how the credit card status - these visits never end well. But what's up, in the worst case, I'll call my favorite lady at the bank. Adventure, we're coming.
Adventure, adventure ... health a bit a pity.
It turned out that the words that I did not hear were: mid-February, frost, snow, road trip, train, middle of the night and a few others. What you do not do to be able to say on a Monday morning at work - trust, a week to rest. Let's say ... because this week ends on Wednesday with a flight to Barcelona near Press Camp Decathlon. But let's start from the beginning.
I am asking you from Warsaw to the nearest shop cafes Raphy clubhouse very good combination. I leave work at 16 and get into Uber (because the price goes like ZTM), which Ihor came to his Peugeot with a half-million mileage. The car is a slight miracle that takes you to the Vistula embankment, but then it goes off a couple of times and for fear of time and life (the forgiveness of drivers in WAW is doubtful at rush hour), I continue the end of the route with a shoe. A visit to Biedronka on the central, to push the suitcase to the end and the first train journey from ~ 10 years. 2 tickets for two in the second class is almost PLN 300 - I remember why I drive a car. After two hours of driving and two hours of waiting, we change the boarding style to the second train. Unfortunately, it flew from our sparks, beautifully composing with a terrifying noise. Co-companions behave as every respectable Pole behaves when he sees such a scene when he goes towards our western neighbor (he falls to the ground because he hears shots). It turns out fortunately that it just dropped us on the roof traction line.

Do you know what a crowded train looks like? Now imagine that there are two people standing next to each other and people have to jump from one to the other. We have some luck ("or bad luck" - Panda) - the hug in the corridors was such that three women reportedly became pregnant. Then it was only a change to the third train, which with the passengers waited for us an additional 1.5 hours and together with the happy people who were starving in it, we move to Szczecin. A walk through the Friday-party city at 1 am allows us to get acquainted with local folklore. At the Novotel, the receptionist at the reception confirms that the breakfast starts in 5 hours and there will be sausages for sure. I'm going to sleep happy ... even though the Canyon bus will come after us before 7.
Szczecin is a beautiful German seaside city in which everyone enjoys their high German pension (in this place 117 Szczecinians closed their browser in a fit of anger). They sit in pubs, occupy hotels, buy things. No wonder that your Polish office is here. It's probably some hidden option (I do not know if the German companies I'm writing about this text will be proud of these jokes). We have not seen the sea, but the port, shipyard and Sea Shipping are. Looking at the number and size of churches, castles and towers - the man who built them, probably entered the code to unlock all epic buildings at the start, then to infinite money and scattered everything tightly. It's a pity to leave, but the bagels and muesli in Rapha are bad. Such food goes to a different stomach than the hotel's breakfast. An hour and a half later, we're here.

At Rapha Clubhouse, we are somehow before 9, they are opening an hour earlier for us. We enter her like panyas. Dressed in our best decathlon clothes and equipped with exclusive, paid foil from Biedronka.
We have the opportunity to talk, ask, touch, eat in peace. What a peasant I am, I am already aware of the good morning when I wait for someone to bring me muesli or yogurt or milk (yogurt is hidden under the flakes and fruits). Bagels and excellent coffee, but mainly because it's free - if I paid 4eur for a bagel, it would hurt a bit. 2.50eur for a coffee sounds a little better. Steffen, the club's coordinator, draws a bit of his story and tells us about the rules, events and clothes. It is elegant and edge designbut without unnecessary pathos and the not-so-nice feeling of being unmatched to the place, as in some expensive stores.
We mainly talk about the Rapha Cycle Club, or "the elite club of Rapha cyclists". You must pay a membership fee of 135 pounds a year to get to him. In return, we get free coffee in each of the Rapha spots, the possibility of renting a bike (specially obrandowanego RCany Canyony logo.) for 20eur for up to three days, access to clothes with the magic logo RCC and the possibility of participating in closed rides. Such as the one in which we will participate - but closed;) My first thought was: what's the point ?! However, I quickly remembered my visit to Rapha in Manchesterin London (there was no entry) and San Francisco and it turned out that such membership would almost come back. Maybe if it will be in Warsaw sometime ...
Is 50 € per T-Shirt a lot?
Everything is nice at Rapha. You may not like it, but objectively you have to admit that it is unfortunately. Why, unfortunately? Well, if you see a t-shirt for 50 euros and a bike blouse for over 300, it hurts your heart a little. Imagine that you are telling your grandma about a blouse for the equivalent of a 2-month pension. WTF. The worst of all is that the longer you sit there, the cheaper you do everything - at least mentally. There is no point in thinking about the price / quality relationship here. This is not Canyon. Here, too, the details are top-notch, but you also pay for this legendary style. For some, legendary, embarrassing for others.
Through his prices and MAMILs (older guests with crunches), Rapha collects in many places. But it's the same as with the drivers of expensive cars and drivers of 20-year-old Golfs, when they stand in the place for an invalid. Only the picture of the first one will be called online shit-storm. The design is characteristic, the newspapers are world-class, the clubs look like galleries, and the clothes themselves are great. Let's finish this ...
We meet Dominik there - he dumped a corpo in Poland and has a job that for many is a dream come true. Maybe I exaggerate a bit, but who would not like to work in a quiet and elegant bike cafe. In my visits I already have experience and my first question is: where is the magic hanger with the clothing line SALE. This is my favorite Rapha line. I do not know why the company releases it, because it does not fit the created image, but how it is, I use it. The trick is that the hanger is always hidden in the furthest and darkest corner. It is not different this time. We spend definitely more than we should. We are back to our best strategy: we close our eyes, we ask that someone lead us to the cash register, we pay by believing that they are canceling properly and we leave without looking at other shelves.
We almost do it. On leaving Steffen, he notices Leica hanging on my neck and announces that they also cooperate with her and in three weeks run joint workshops. Damn. Having a Leica camera is great at all, because although it is exactly the same camera as Panasonic (at least mine), but more expensive, because with a red logo - people think that you are doing pro pictures even when you are still clicking on the car program. Besides, if people think you're a pro, and you're doing something average, people will think anyway that it should be and that's the intention artist.
The train goes, dear people drive.
At 10.30 the ride begins. Steffen promises a classic tour and some sightseeing in the city, but it quickly turns out that the city attracts tourists even in the winter. The piston at the Brandenburg Gate is so large that we give up this idea. To make the entry complete, you can go back to the previously linked one Road Berlin. We make a classic southern loop, or half an hour of pushing through the city, the water area in Potsdam and again half an hour through the city. Driving a large group (just like an individual) is stress-free in Berlin, but still rather annoying. It's faster and more enjoyable from Warsaw. In general, the more I drive around big cities, the more I like "my" city. There are some forests on the loop, a few jumps, but there is no rage. The pace is classic for store settings, meaning "everyone can do it", but some will have a harder time than others. As in life.
People are riding a mass, a terribly boring route
The atmosphere is perfect, there are no dangerous situations. A guest who can and is not the fastest but has to prove that he is - a lack. Unheard of. Rapha has it smartphones an application to handle the settings - we laugh that you can probably get a ban in it, for being a bhoot. We do some 75km in a joyful atmosphere of a social ride.
On one of the last hills, Steffen speaks in German about the hill, waiting at its end and dividing the group. I do not quite understand, but since I have a German certificate, honor does not allow me to admit it. The fire is coming, it turns out that the highest Aeroada model on which I drive is some kind of Satan. I do not comprehend mainly because I do not know where the segment is. Worries on my face can not be hidden when I discover that this moment of burnout is definitely shorter than I thought. I'm starting to wonder if I'm this guy ...
What am I telling me about the cafes you write ?!
In fact, the reason for our visit was completely different. After all, Canyon invited us. For sure it is happy that I have written so many words, and nothing more about bicycles. We set up the configuration a month earlier on the phone, but you know ... poor coverage. The configuration we get is classic: "best for me, something for you". So I'm finishing with the top version of Canyon Aeroad CF SLX, which costs as much as a new car. Panda gets Canyon Ultimate CF SL ... it means blue, gets blue. Both on the shields, mine on the electric Dura Ace, her on the mechanical Ultegra. Both quite heavy, but beautiful (Aeroad weighs a kilo more than the bike I ride). We wrote a similar text 2 years ago, during Visits to the Tatraswhen Canyon was on the Tatra Road Race, but then Aeroad fought Endurac. And the roles were crazy, because Panda was sitting on Aeroada.
These are not cheap things.
Lets start with: Canyon Aeroad. Exactly that: AEROAD CF SLX DISC 9.0 DI2. You know - such a clever shortcut from aero and road - aeroad. The sweetest. A bike for zapier ... for faster and uncompromising driving (where, then, the 52/36 crank ?!). A bike to achieve high speeds, but with the option of cornering. Bike for bankruptcy, because in this version it costs exactly 31 899 PLN. You want to drive fast on flat and on hills, you take this bike. Pro Touru people win on it. One thing is for sure, with a high cone and red painting, you can not miss it. I will illustrate this by analogy. When you arrive at the road set, you feel like a guest who comes to the rally of fans of light bulbs and everyone has ordinary, and you have a red, 100 watt and the only one shines. It needs as much power as a few others put together, but damn ... it shines like crazy. If only the guest who designed Luxor Hotel, about which I wrote entry about Las Vegas he knew about her.
Adventure, adventure ... Canyona a bit too bad.
However, the bike is unlucky, it hit us. Unlucky double, because it's his first kilometers, and there was no bicycle yet, which meeting me survived unscathed. Maybe it's a change in temperature by a dozen or so degrees, maybe the effect of the novelty, maybe some strange paste, or maybe just too tightly tightened the screw, but for good morning the seatpost comes off. I do not like being a visitor, who is waiting for a 20-person trip, so I take the case and, devoting my knees, I ride lower and lower. The fun ends when I am so aero, that my knee has a copy of my camera, which loses a piece of the lens. Fast pit stop and pull the saddle up. The blockade of the seatpost jumps to the ground, making a beautiful crack on it before, and the saddle falls onto the frame leaving a beautiful trail - the price in the outlet will go down. Of course, nothing broke down, it's a demountable element. Quickly, however, I pull the saddle on or less as- good height, I put a stopper and go on. It protrudes seriously, but after a few pavements falls into its place and the problem of the destruction. Magic. I would not be able to use a simple clamp at speed, without a tool.
The moment when you discover that the bike is more PRO than you. Much more.
However, this is not the only problem. This bike is completely not for me - at least configurationally. The high cones move a bit in the wind, especially when the truck passes by. They are probably pretty, but unfortunately - I do not like them, Panda. They kill me a bit of the charm of this bike, because black and black and dull it would be a bomb. But I am from those who also think that Mavic Cosmic (which are quite similar visually) are some of the ugliest models they are, so do not listen to me. They will also find many amateurs. Damn, after all we're talking about wide cones with a height of 64mm and a weight of 1650g.
Electric Dura Ace is much better, smoother, faster and faster than an electric ultegra. Of course, if someone would have stuck my stickers on the accessories, I would write exactly the same (that is, if I got an Ultegra with the word Dura Ace). The performance is of course a masterpiece, although again - two different shades of black on the crank make the Ultegra look more coherent. In winter gloves it's much more convenient to play with eTAP from SRAM. A small button for shifting can be poorly felt with thick material, but who is normal in this outfit on the road?
The integrated cockpit is great. Similar to the one with Infilites, which we traveled the Azores. The frame size is XL and fits my 188cm perfectly, better than Rose, which I ride every day. Unfortunately, smaller bikes almost always look better, this is also the case here. Big bikes look strange. The only advantage is the high head, which shows the shape of the hourglass, which makes the aero more aero.
The brakes are braking, the derailleurs are shifting, the wheels are spinning.
Disc brakes are braking in all conditions. Wet surface, ice, fine rain have no effect on them. I would like to remind you that we are talking about carbon wheels and saying that the brakes are not always true. We do not have a problem here. Of course, if we just remember to reflexively clench the front with all the force in an emergency situation. What's more, Panda claims they look nice. I am not sure of myself. I know that the grips, although smaller than before, are still large, although my big hands are more comfortable on them. I do not know, however, whether the shields are definitely needed in Aeroada, which supposedly does not serve the mountains, but for me, even in the weather conditions of Masovia, it would help a lot.
Shields are the future and there is no point in fighting it. Unless you are just 5 people in the Giant Mountains with 5 bikes and you remember that you do not have an adapter for the rigid axles in the roof rack. I greet Maciek from the past.

Aeroad is a bike like: give me the best you have. I like it, but for a reason I chose a light bike instead of aero, low wheels, instead of high and eTapa instead of Dura Ace. Such bikes are bought by a man who knows what he wants (and he wants to drive fast) and he gets it, or accidental, who simply buys the best and as he did not know what he wants, he will be pleased too. Well, because friends will envy him and the rest of the people hejtowała for the excess of form over the content (hardware over form), and it pleases like nothing else. If you ask Pandas what he thinks about him, he will say that he is ugly, because he is red. I would not buy it, but it's completely individual preferences and I can recommend it with a clear conscience to anyone who plans to shave the set in the style of Ronda Babka.
The most optimal bike in the world ... not
Panda rides on Canyon Ultimate CF SL (sorry that I do not change darts, but you know - SEO). More specific: ULTIMATE CF SL DISC 8.0. This is probably our favorite bike from Canyon's stable. More sporty than Endurace, more versatile than Aeroada. In our model everything is basically irrelevant. Blue mat (at least until the day you need to clean it) is a class in itself. This bike is beautiful. In black, it's a classic bike-bike, but here. Here it looks great, especially under the women's back. At a time when roses in clothes have become fashionable even for men, you can still feel that it is a unisex. The question is whether he would still look like this without a white wrapper. We do not think so, but when it comes to white wrappers, everyone knows. Well, either look or comfort.
The CF SL version is missing at the end of the magic letter X. This makes it become slightly heavier, but definitely cheaper. It is not a bike anymore: give me everything. It is not even anymore: give me something too good. Canyon Ultimate CF SL is, however, at least in my opinion, a complete bike. Of course, not in the configuration we got. If you pay so much money, you want to have an electrician. Unless you do not want to, but then you must have a reason that 86% of people will not understand. If in the model we tested (and probably such configuration on the site also exists) was Ultegra Di2, it would be the most optimal bike imaginable. Especially if it was to be extended to those who are willing to have an integrated cockpit, although in this case I can imagine people who would not have done it.
I write that Ultimate is the best bike for everyone, a colleague at work asks for some good machine up to 1600 PLN
Do not get me wrong. Canyon Ultimate CF SLX is not a bike that I recommend to everyone and everyone should buy. As they say: these are not cheap things, and in this case we can not objectively say that it is affordable. If you tell your buddy at work and anywhere in the sentence, put a price, combined with the words: reason or good price / quality ratio - tomorrow you will have a conversation with your boss. It will turn out that some of your friends have mapped that your earnings are indecent.
With an electrician it would be a bike, which you can say that any further investment does not make sense anymore, because the profits are unnoticeable. Maybe, very much for strength, wheels ... but buying cool wheels for shields is still difficult. Especially if money is a thing that we have to worry about sometimes. Of course, it would be unfair to say that mechanical Ultegra is wrong. It is an accessory without any complaints from my side: it runs smoothly, comfortably, looks great, and its only disadvantage is that it is not electric. It's a bit like the Kliczków brothers. You're a great boxer - Vladimir, but you're unlucky because your brother was saying hello.
Others are always ... different.
There are of course other models. For example, version poverty, i.e. Canyon built on this frame, but with 105 and axics, and without shields, which costs PLN 7299 (with shields for ten feet). Or in the electric version, which already costs 17299 PLN and puts it on a completely different shelf. I will leave myself this pleasure for the future, because you know ... you have to have something to write about.
Unfortunately, both devices give the impression of being quite heavy. Maybe it's winter, maybe it's accustomed to ours - slightly lighter, maybe shields - I do not know. A visit to the scale quickly brightens everything: without pedals, with one basket, Ultimate S size weighs 7.550kg, and Aeroad 7.660kg. Evaluate it yourself. I know, however, that you will not make a mistake by buying CONFIRM every one of them. Aeroad is, in my opinion, a top invention, but for a strictly defined group of recipients. The Ultimate we're having is very good, but with electrics it would be great. If you want a fast, versatile and reasonably priced bike - this is it.
I would be happy to write something more, especially about stiffness, overcoming driveways, turning and everything - professional. However, it is the middle of February. I spent the last months on a tire thicker by a centimeter or on a trainer. Not only that, overcoming the climbs, being dressed as a bulb and in not very favorable weather conditions, as well as visual ones, I can not judge. Because even walking like a firecracker and trying to make a KOM on flat, it turned out that I miss 15%, and when driving with Panda speed of light, the meter showed 33km / h. It's definitely winter ... and the wind ... and long pants, hairy legs, chassis, bad rails and everything. In the case of both bikes, however, I trust this company and the opinion of people who ride them much longer than I do.
Separated from reality.
I am coming back from the trip knowing that Aeroad is not for me, and the blue Ultimate, if only he had Di2, he would be an ideal bike for Panda. On Monday at work again I wonder if it is worth adding to Chinese PLN 2 for a more expensive dish and I realize how abstract this weekend was. It's good that Canyon is not going anywhere in women's team painting ...
Meanwhile, I return to work, because the visit to Rapha still hurts today. Damn me and my weak strong free.
PS I made some measurements and it turned out that creating such an entry takes about 10 hours of clicking non-stop (plus of course the time needed to collect materials).
